CASBA provides social and learning opportunities for adults with Learning Disabilities/Difficulties.  Sessions are run by staff and external trainers, we need volunteer ‘Group Supporters’ to encourage and enable service users to learn and understand new skills, in either an educational or social context.  You will need to befriend, listen and learn and give lots of praise and confidence to those who may struggle with learning and concentration.  There may also be opportunities for the Group support volunteer to work within our drop-in sessions, providing a warm welcome, refreshments and registering visitors whilst they wait to be seen by an advocate.  There may also be opportunities to help arrange one off social events and activities during weekends and evenings.
Time commitment expectations:  Minimum - 2 hours per week
Flexibility of Role:  Flexibility in attendance will be required.  For courses and structured time limited activities you will need to be available over a 6 to 8 week period and/or on specific days.  There may also be the occasional weekend or evening activity arranged if you would be available.
Desirable skills and abilities for this role:  Good communication skills; an understanding of working with Adults with Learning Disabilities; lots of patience; humour and an ability to give confidence.  You will need to enjoy being challenged by your role and be prepared to share ideas and skills with staff and service users.  Lastly, you will need to be passionate about helping CASBA meet the needs of its service users.
Any specific skills that you are willing to share with service users including crafts; cooking; sports; Training or teaching experience or would be really appreciated but more importantly we need people who will care and support our service users within our groups.
