Heritage Projects
One very important way of ensuring that the voices of people with a Learning Disability are heard is through recording them and celebrating their heritage. CASBA began their first heritage project in 2017, documenting the history of Monyhull Hospital, its closure and the resettlement of residents into the community.
Following on from that, we are now working with five special schools across Birmingham to document how special education has developed in the last fifty years since the passing of the Education Act (Handicapped Children) in 1970, which guaranteed all children a place at school regardless of disability.
