Money mentor volunteer
As a Money Mentor volunteer, you will support the CASBA Choices and Changes project advocate team to help discover solutions to overcome money issues and problems for adults with Learning Disabilities. Taking away the distress and terrors that often threaten to overwhelm them.
Your role as a money mentor volunteer could involve:
Minimum – 3 hours a fortnight or 2-3 hours a week dependent on the activity you undertake.
Flexibility of role:
You will be required to offer your time during CASBA’s office working hours only (9 am to 4.30 pm). With some activities you may need to use public transport (Travel costs will be reimbursed). However, this will be optional.
Skills and Abilities for this role:
You will need to be passionate about improving the lives of people with Learning disabilities. You will have good communication skills, able to simplify and explain complex forms and information. Be empathetic and approachable and good at listening. Be willing to be part of a supportive team and learn from each other.
Training and Supervision:
In house training will be given at the beginning as part of your initial induction with CASBA, this will be updated as and when required as your role develops. After induction your induction you will receive regular mentoring support from dedicated members of staff both in an individual and group capacity as required.
Your role as a money mentor volunteer could involve:
- Giving one to one or small group advice on money management and debt concerns.
- Accompanying a service user to appointments, on public transport, to help them sort out any money problems or issues they have. i.e. opening a new bank account, getting a doctor’s letter for their ESA claim etc.
- Helping to facilitate and develop specific training for service users around debt and money management
- Mentoring a service user as they put new skills they have learnt, into practice.
- Help at fortnightly drop in sessions at CASBA, to provide mentoring support to those that attend.
