CASBA is a charity providing advocacy and support to Adults with Learning disabilities (citizens) within South Birmingham.
Working within a team of Citizens, advocates and volunteers you will plan, develop and support self-advocacy groups for CASBA.  There will be opportunities to develop further training and interest groups when Citizens wish to develop their knowledge and skills on specific issues.  This may include developing resources and bringing in speakers and other organisations to share with the groups.
An important part of this work will be to co-work with our Link worker for the West Midlands Self-Advocacy Network (WMSAN).  Ensuring greater collaboration between CASBA and WMSAN and jointly attending WMSAN conferences with them.
You will help recruit and train volunteers with the volunteer coordinator, carry out monitoring and evaluation of the work undertaken.
We asked our citizen volunteers what qualities a person needed for this post, they said
"We want someone who is going to be Friendly, Kind, Polite, Patient and Dedicated.  Someone who will listen.  Someone who will not make assumptions, take us for who we are.  You will see the person not the disability.  Someone who understands we are all equal.  Someone to help me keep focussed.  Someone to help me be heard, not shout out their own opinions but support us with ours.  Someone who recognises our individual and different strengths"
If you believe you have these qualities and can fulfil the skills and experience within the job description, please apply:
